Just
before WW I there were several field telephone models
designed in Germany not only for infantry communications
troops (Telegrafen-Bataillons) but also for heavy artillery
and for field artillery. On
top of regular handset our telephone has additional earpiece which
presumably was used by the telephone operator to cover his other ear
for better readability next to shooting guns.
